An Interview With Dr. Wethe, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Torrance

What is Blepharoplasty?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, and give a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert.

After how long will the stitches be taken out?

Suture removal occurs most often in 5 to 7 days after surgery.

Are there any age restrictions for undergoing Blepharoplasty?

Not really, although each patient may well have issues related to age that will impact the surgery and the expected outcome. All of this information would usually be discussed at the time of a consultation.

Are there any risks involved with Blepharoplasty?

With any surgery there are definitely risks. Bleeding, infections, poor scars, asymmetry and other issues can arise in eyelid surgery and any other plastic surgery procedure. Be sure to discuss this with the physician prior to making a decision about proceeding with the surgery.

When will I be able to see results?

Although you will see some results right away, it usually takes several months for all of the swelling and scars to settle for you to see the true final results.

Does Blepharoplasty affect the patient' s vision?

In very rare circumstances vision could be affected but it usually is not changed by eyelid surgery.

What is the recovery time from cosmetic eyelid surgery?

Patients usually look ok in one week and good by 2 to 3 weeks.

Will Blepharoplasty change the shape of the eye?

It can do exactly this. During the consultation the doctor will go over your current eye shape and how the surgery may affect it. At times, the changes are both expected and intended and other times they are a result of the surgery and need to be discussed prior to the procedure so that the patient will be well aware of the outcome.

Is there much scarring with Blepharoplasty?

Usually eyelid surgery heals with fine scars. On occasion there are more visible and prominent scars associated with the procedure. Since every incision heals with a scar it is important to go over this concern with your doctor in consultation prior to deciding to go ahead with the surgery.
